Erster Mai

On the banks of the Leine

This was just super cool.
May 1st was Labor Day here, as it is in most countries. Since we had the day off, some friends and I joined in with the German love for heading outdoors!  There were a few different events going on, including just a general festival which I walked through, but was too crowded to stay at.  So my friends and I walked over towards the little beach bar along the river, but this entire area was completely packed.  All along the river people were hanging out and grilling.  We ended up in a beer garden I'd found and wanted to try out.  Later on we walked through the Georgengarten which was fuller than I'd ever seen it before.  Otherwise lots of people were just taking walks, jogging, and biking around.  I think the novelty of warm weather and sun and the holiday all combined into a festive day for everyone.  Since there aren't many individual yards in the city, people have to just go out in public to celebrate.

What you can't see is that this is right along the river.
