Boulogne sur Mer
Originally I wanted to travel more in France and on the top of my list was visiting the coast. However, most youth hostels were all booked, except in Boulogne sur Mer. So that's how I ended up there, and it was a bit disappointing. The old town was small and cute, and I did enjoy seeing the ocean, but the weather was chilly and the beach was small and not very picturesque. Highlight: fancy dinner of mussels, salad, fries, and apple tart.

Versailles
Versailles is not just the palace, but an actual city. However, the highlight was indeed the palace which was over the top extravagant. By living in this massive palace, I understood how the royals were seen to be out of touch with the people and how they might have actually felt entitled to all of this wealth.

On another note, I enjoyed biking through the gardens, walking through the actual city of Versailles, which has a nice feel to it, and wrapping up the theme of the day by watching Marie Antoinette.
