If it's not one thing, it's another it seems, and so I've been a bit too busy to write lately, but will give a quick update of January this far. After break I had back-to-school craziness in figuring out my schedule, then moving apartments, and now today back to graduate school applications.
Moving was a big effort though. I spent the past week trekking back and forth between the Nordstadt and Südstadt with more bags each time. The worst was always at the end: going up four flights of stairs to my new room weighed down by my luggage. But now I'm fairly unpacked aside from finding homes for a few more papers. Once I have a chance to feel more settled I'll write about my new home and neighborhood.
But for now, I think the stairs are an example of why there's much less obesity in Germany. I really don't think it has much to do with the food, it's really the exercise! Many people (in cities) ride with public transportation, which requires extra walking to and from stops. Biking is much more prevalent. 10-20 minutes is not considered too far to walk to do errands, especially when there's not much parking. Altogether it adds up.
So meanwhile I will be building up my stair legs and heading back to another week of school.
